[edit] Public transportation

Muni is the city's public transportation system. http://www.sfmta.com/cms/home/sfmta.php

  • Cost of regular fare: $2 with a transfer good for a couple of hours.
  • Cost of monthly pass: $70 for a monthly pass to use any Muni vehicle, plus BART as far as Embarcadero one way and Balboa Park the other direction (within the city, basically).
  • Cost $60 monthly Muni pass without BART privileges (Starting Jan 1st 2010)

Other public transportation:

  • BART - costs $1.75 within the city, and outside of the city it depends how far you are traveling. Goes to Berkeley and Oakland and connects to Caltrain. http://www.bart.gov/
  • Caltrain
  • Golden Gate Transit
  • AC Transit
  • Tri-Delta Transit
  • Transbay ferries

[edit] Translink and EZRider

I carry one RFID card to pay for BART, ACTransit, and MUNI: Translink. BART was only recently added to the Translink card; BART riders have had the similar EZRider card for a few years now. So I actually carry my EZRider card as a backup in case there's a problem with Translink at the point of entry. But I find it simpler than cash, especially when it comes to keeping track of my transportation budget at the end of each month. --Kerrick
