- Point Reyes is the closest wilderness to San Francisco with elk, bobcats, fox, hawks, deer, whales, oysters and more.
- Muir Woods is excellent, and you can hike to Stinson beach from there, that's a great hike.
- I like hiking on the peninsula especially at Montara.
You would probably need a car to get to a lot of good hiking, but Zipcar or city car share is a great option if you don't want to own one.
